Hands on Assists

Hands On Assisting
Yoga practitioners derive tremendous benefit from effective adjustments. These adjustments come in a variety of forms, including physical, verbal, and even energetic cues. In making hands-on adjustments, it is imperative to realize that you are adjusting a student, not an asana. In this workshop we will work with this increased sensitivity toward each individual in a pose, as well as exploring the teacher’s own understanding of the asana itself through personal experience. This workshop will explore safe and intelligent adjustments, an understanding of what the intention or quality of each asana contains, where a student is in his or her own journey of understanding and experiencing a pose, and what level of information they can eventually absorb from the adjustment a teacher has decided to give. During this workshop, you will be jumping right in; expect to partner up and benefit from both giving and receiving assists. Basic anatomy and principles of alignment will be reviewed so that you can assist any pose with confidence. You will learn how to assist while keeping your alignment safe as well as methods of getting in and out of your adjustments with disturbing the student.
